My sister's off to Alaska for a month to herd reindeer. It'll make a change from herding reindeer at home.

I want to go to Alaska to herd huskies. Well, OK, to mush them.

There's no news of huskies from the western wastes, but the latest Alaskan e-missive bore the intriguing news that the locals refer to reindeer calves as "puppies". Mind you, this comes from a place where the capital is called Gnome, er, I mean Nome.

Alaskan deer-breeding

I didn't know that there are domesticated rain-deer herds in America.... THat phenomenon is usually associated with Polar ring of Eurasia. Pity then - domisticated forms with help of their breeders do tend to wipe off the remnants of the last northern megafauna from the Earth surface... (like domestic and wild horses, cattle, sheep etc).
