Psychopathy Fail

December 9th, 2013 (12:58 pm)
current location: DD2 1EG

Channel 4 is doing an evening of programmes about psychopaths, and have a handy-dandy test where you can assess your own level of psychopathy.

Uninterestingly but perhaps reassuringly, it turns out I’m a teddy bear, scoring 21%:

You are warm and empathic with a heightened awareness of social responsibility and a strong sense of conscience. You like to carefully weigh up the pros and cons of a situation before you act and are generally averse to taking risks. You are very much a ‘people person’ and dislike conflict. ‘Do unto others…’ are your watchwords. But, although you avoid hurting others, those residing at the higher end of the psychopathic spectrum might not be as considerate, so stay vigilant to avoid being hurt unnecessarily.

I came out with 27% which makes me think they're asking the wrong questions, my guess would have been higher.

I love that the highest scores are FT readers - ties in nicely with the Stross theory that businesses are run by and for psychopaths.

That is quite an interesting result, isn't it?

The validity of the questions - well, I don't expect much from science for a TV audience, and I expect you're of a similar opinion. It's an interesting broad indication, so long as we don't take it too seriously.

36%.

Still quite cuddly, apparently :->

36% doesn't sound like much of a threat :-) I thought I was doing pretty well on the cuddliness quotient until a couple of ladies in the department got scores in the teens!

Suspiciously low. They are clearly psychopaths who have learned to fake it!

Re: w

I'll throw some rainbows and kittens on them if they get out of hand (advice from one of the other low scorers :-).

I'm relieved that all my friends (so far!) seem unlikely to resort to a surreptitious meat-cleaver. Someone at work scored 73%...

Nope. IT Change/Project Management. (Not a manager, despite how that sounds.)

Golly!

I scored 24% — finding it hard to imagine how somebody could score up in the 70s…
